The third match of the ODI series between the Indian cricket team and the South African cricket team also ended in the favor of the home team. Most members of the cricket universe expected the Indian cricket team to whitewash the South African cricket team. However, the Proteas emerged victorious by 3-0. Deepak Chahar almost took the Indian cricket team over the line in the third ODI, but the visitors lost by four runs eventually.

Talking about the match that happened in Cape Town, the Indian cricket team captain KL Rahul won the toss and invited the home team to bat first. A fantastic century from opening batter Quinton de Kock helped the South African cricket team post a 287-run total on the board. Quinton scored 124 runs off 130 deliveries, smashing 12 fours and two sixes.

Rassie van der Dussen supported him with a fine half-century. For the visiting team, Prasidh Krishna was the best bowler as he returned with figures of 3/59 in 9.5 overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Deepak Chahar also took two wickets each for the Indian cricket team as they bowled out the opposition for 287.

Chasing 288 to avoid an embarrassing whitewash, the Indian cricket team were down to 223/7 after half-centuries from Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli. It seemed like the Proteas would pull off an easy win. However, Deepak Chahar kept the game alive with a 34-ball 54. He smashed five fours and two sixes.
