Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have named Shakib Al Hasan as their new Test captain. The board had to make this decision after Mominul Haque stepped down as the skipper. Bangladesh performed well under Haque’s captaincy. They registered a historic win on New Zealand’s soil earlier this year.

However, the batting performances of Mominul Haque were not so impressive, and as the team lost the home ICC World Test Championship series against the Sri Lankan cricket team last month, he decided to step down as the captain. Shakib Al Hasan, who has led Bangladesh in all three formats, will lead his country again.

A report from Cricbuzz stated:

Fans should note that Mominul Haque became the new captain of Bangladesh Test team in 2019, when Shakib received a ban. After that, he led the team in 17 matches, registering three wins, two draws and 12 losses.

Shakib Al Hasan was in the headlines recently for his inappropriate behavior in domestic cricket. He got angry on the umpire and kicked the stumps after he did not raise his finger for an LBW appeal. Later, when the umpire called off a match, Shakib uprooted all three stumps at the non-striker’s end and threw them in frustration.
