Ahead of the IPL 2022 season, all cricket universe members received a massive surprise as the Royal Challengers Bangalore decided against retaining their all-time highest wicket-taker Yuzvendra Chahal. While it seemed like the decision was made keeping the purse in mind, RCB did not even try to re-sign Chahal at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.
Rajasthan Royals signed Chahal, and he has emerged as a match-winner for the Jaipur-based franchise since then. Tonight, Chahal is donning the Rajasthan Royals jersey against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and so far, he has been exceptional for his new franchise. The right-arm leg-spinner has picked up two wickets in his first three overs so far.
He took the wickets of Faf du Plessis and David Willey. Also, Chahal played a role in dismissing Virat Kohli by run-out. Fans should note that the Royal Challengers Bangalore did not speak with Chahal about his retention. Here’s what he revealed in a chat with Times of India:
“I am emotionally attached to RCB. I never thought I would play for some other team. People and fans on social media are still asking me ‘why did you ask for this much money?’. The reality is that Mike Hesson (RCB Director of Cricket) called me and said ‘Listen Yuzi, there are three retentions.”
