Nitish Rana returned to form in IPL 2022 with a solid half-century against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders team, Rana came out to bat at number five after KKR lost three early wickets. He stabilized the innings with captain Shreyas Iyer and took calculated risks to keep the scoreboard ticking.
The Kolkata Knight Riders were down to 31/3 when Rana joined Shreyas Iyer in the middle. Aaron Finch opened the innings with Venkatesh Iyer for KKR. Both openers failed to get going and were back in the hut before the fifth over ended. Even Sunil Narine joined them in the dressing room shortly as KKR needed a good partnership in the middle.
Captain Shreyas Iyer and number five batter Nitish Rana added 39 runs for the fourth wicket before Umran Malik shattered the stumps of Iyer, much to the delight of SRH’s fast-bowling coach Dale Steyn. The Knight Riders needed a good innings from Rana, and he delivered it. He scored 54 runs off 36 balls.
Before this match, former Kolkata Knight Riders batter Aakash Chopra made the following comment on his official YouTube channel:
“Nitish Rana has been purchased for ₹8 crore, he needs to show more responsibility. He is not doing the job yet.”

During the 13th over of the Kolkata Knight Riders innings, a pacey delivery from Umran Malik was guided towards the third man boundary by Rana. He attempted a cut, but the ball took the outside edge and flew past the short boundary. The ball bounced once before destroying the glass door of a fridge at the SRH dugout.
