The 46th game of IPL 2022 is happening at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings taking on the Sunrisers Hyderabad. MS Dhoni returned as the skipper of CSK, while Ruturaj Gaikwad returned form with a fantastic knock of 99 runs.
Opening the innings for the Chennai Super Kings along with Devon Conway, Gaikwad had a magnificent partnership of 182 runs for the first wicket. They ensured that the Chennai-based franchise had a commanding position in the match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
It seemed like Gaikwad would become the first player to score a hundred for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022, but the right-handed batter fell short by just one run. He handed a catch to Bhuvneshwar Kumar off T Natarajan’s bowling. After his dismissal, Gaikwad was visibly disappointed with himself as he walked back to the dressing room.
Commenting on his innings, the Chennai Super Kings opener told the host broadcasters:
“The pitch is slow but if you get set on this wicket, you can take some big chances as well. I was trying to maintain a balance there so nothing as such. It was pretty much usual. The though process was just about being focused, enjoying the game and not worrying about the result.”
